Hello from sunny (smoggy) Xiamen!
All is well so far. I’m getting to know new people, both American and Chinese, the courseload is heavy, but so far I haven’t dug myself into an incredibly deep hole. Yesterday I finished a project about the poetry of the Tang Dynasty. I have managed to avoid Chairman Mao’s revenge despite eating my share of local flavors. I’ve had several frog dishes. These are not your grandpa’s fried frog legs; I’m talking take a whole frog, chop it up, boil it and put it in some rice. It really doesn’t have a bad flavor, you just have to make sure you spit out all the bones. I also had an eel dish that was without a doubt the spiciest thing I have EVER put into my mouth. It was not good times for my tongue.
